The food that seemed perfectly fine in April suddenly feels heavy. A meal that would have digested without a second thought in summer now sits in the stomach for hours. Bloating appears from nowhere. Most people chalk it up to the weather changing. Take an antacid. Eat lighter. Wait for October.
But the mechanism is specific, it is consistent, and it happens to almost every Indian body every single monsoon for a reason that Ayurvedic physicians understood two thousand years ago and that modern gastroenterology is now beginning to explain in different language.
Your digestion genuinely weakens during the rainy season. That is not imagination. And the cooking fat you use every day either helps your gut manage that weakness or quietly makes it worse.
The Biological Reality of Monsoon Digestion
The body is not a fixed machine that performs identically across seasons. It responds to environmental shifts temperature, humidity, light exposure, barometric pressure because it evolved in a world where those shifts were significant.
During summer, metabolic rate is relatively high. The body generates internal heat to manage thermoregulation, and that heat also supports digestive function.
